So, we decided to camp at Rancho Secco so we wouldn't have to get up too early to drive the hour to get to the race. It worked out well. Rancho Secco is a SMUD park near the closed nuclear power plant. We did lots of swimming in the lake in the hot afternoon. It reached nearly 98 officially, although our home thermometer showed 112 and it felt even hotter than that! Cool dips in the lake were so refreshing! We missed the sunset the first night, so made sure we were there the second night. So beautiful with those oranges and yellows.
