1.  The school campus in Kazakhstan.  It is a beautiful and well planned campus!
2.  It was so fun to see a Khmer staff member in Egypt, so it was only natural to enjoy bubble tea together!
3.  Shanthi's famous!  Her student connection has made it to a large billboard on the campus!
4.  Week Without Walls meant a morning of paintball!  The students loved to take shots at Shanthi and she especially targeted those who turned in late work!  :)
5.  Spring break meant heading to Borneo where we toured a cultural village.  Some tribes had a history of head hunting as recently as the early 1900's. (Starbucks gift card to the person who names the last of the headhunting tribes in Borneo)
6.  Spring break also meant a visit from some dear friends we met while in Cambodia.  We love hosting visitors and have two spare bedrooms.  Please come and enjoy life and the beauty of Malaysia with us!

To The Steppes...

Kazakh-what?  Early last month Chad jumped on a plane to the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan!  He never knew this was in his region and had no idea what to expect from this new part of the world.  Turns out, it is an amazing country with such rich history!  He and a small team from the Cambodia office undertook crucial safety inspections of an existing school facility and reviewed the blueprints for an upcoming construction project. It's inspiring to use his engineering skills to improve the lives of others and bring encouragement to the school leadership team.

... and to Civilizations Beginnings,

"The building is quite new, it was built around 1910"  This is a phrase that makes sense in Egypt where the pyramids, built 4,500 years ago, still look over the city.  The office is located in one of these new buildings on the outskirts of the city!  Chad recently visited our team there and joined them as they cast vision for the next 3-5 years.  It was so amazing to witness the continued growth and potential within this team of dedicated design professionals.  During his time, Chad spend quality time encouraging the Office Director and her husband who have navigated a challenging past year and are beginning to see the fruit of their hard work.

...but Only Fish with Shanthi,

Shanthi's entering her final month of school and the depth of connection with her students is so evident.  They recently inquired about the Marine biology club for next year (which Shanthi is currently leading), and when they learned that Shanthi wouldn't be leading it, they chose another club!  We were both able to chaperone Shanthi's 8th grade students as we snorkeled on the East coast of Malaysia to promote the UN's sustainability goal for life under water. This trip further deepened the relationships.  She is already looking forward to teaching them next year!

... to see New Sights!

We also want to share that Chad is entering a season of transition in his work. The past period has presented significant hurdles and conflicts, leading to these upcoming changes. While the specifics are still unfolding, we are wholeheartedly committed to prayer and seeking God's clear direction for the path ahead. We trust in His guidance and will share further updates as they emerge. Thank you for holding us in your prayers during this time of seeking.

  1. Praise God with us for the favor that Shanthi has with her students and the school.  It has been a wonderful and amazing first year!
  2. We appreciate your continued prayers for our children.  Ask God to meet their needs and to continue to bring wonderful people into their lives.
  3. Please pray for the right people to fill the needs at Shanthi's school next year.  There are still a couple openings!  If you know a teacher interested, here's the link of what positions are open.
  4. Please pray for our future plans and Chad's transition at EMI.  May God provide clear direction and give us peace as we wait for Him to reveal next steps.
Shanthi's Scholarly Snippets

Did you know...?

that blowing up kidney stones with sound waves really enthralled my 8th grade students?  We've been studying waves, specifically sound waves.  And I got to share my story about when I had kidney stones.  The students were so impressed by it, they used it as an example on the test of ways humans use sound waves. :)  Who knew I would be able to use that experience later in life?
From Chad's Bookshelf

Chad loves reading and always has a few books in progress.  Here is a quote from his recent reading

  • You shouldn't feel guilty for the thrill of unwrapping and delighting in a present on Christmas morning, nor should you feel guilty for receiving what God gives. But in both cases, rather than ignoring the Giver, enjoy the gift with the one who gave it by saying thanks.
