1.  Colorful parrot in Malaysia. As semi-avid birders, we're excited to meet some new feathered friends.
2.  Chad was able to connect with one of the EMI Fellows during a recent trip to the EMI USA office.  GO BLUE!
3.  Shanthi's first day of teaching!  We live 1 mile from the school, so it is easy to bike!
4.  Chad and Nathan were able to do some car repairs during his recent visit to Colorado.  $5 Starbucks card to the one who comes closest to the amount of money saved by doing repairs on their own!
5.  This is our new house in Malaysia!  It is beautiful on the inside with room for guests, so let us know if you want to come visit
6.  Not Malaysia, but a picture of a recent hike that our daughter Chesna went on in Washington.  She lives in such a beautiful part of the USA!!

Shanthi's New Role

Shanthi has recently started a teaching position at Oasis School, where she's teaching 9th grade math and 6th and 8th grade science. Learning the new school systems, students names, curriculum and grading system has been overwhelming at times, but she's enjoying the new challenge and is excited to contribute to the education of the students. The school has been wonderful and so helpful in getting us established in Malaysia!

Mentoring Young Professionals

Through our work at EMI, we've had the privilege of mentoring a group of young professionals through EMI's Fellowship Program. It has been exciting to see them grow significantly, both professionally and spiritually, during their time with us. Their reflections on their experience have been inspiring.

One recently shared, "I have grown professionally and spiritually, but the most was spiritual. I have never really had time to study the Bible, but through the program, I did. I am so grateful to go through the program together with other fellows and to see us grow together."

Another shared with us: "The Apostles Creed class did a lot to improve my walk with God. I loved all the classes that I took. I really saw God provide in amazing ways just before I left Uganda. I learned how to depend on people and be vulnerable with them."

Malaysia Transition

We're adjusting well to our new life in Malaysia. We're exploring the country, meeting new people, and learning about the local culture. It's been a wonderful experience so far.  Next week we travel to a different state to enjoy the beautiful mountain region while celebrating Malaysia Day!
  1. Continue to pray for our transition to Malaysia.  We are still looking for a church community and Chad is looking for some people to cycle with in the morning.
  2. Pray for Shanthi as she restarts her teaching career.  May God give her wisdom to learn all the new things that go along with this.
  3. Pray for our children who continue to learn and grow into amazing adults.  They have so many decisions to make on a regular basis, please join us in praying that God would lead them and they would have ears to hear His voice.
  4. Please pray for our office in India and our leadership team.  There are many decisions that need a high degree of communication, unity and wisdom.

Did you know...?

Because of the greatness of our solar system there is no great scale model.  We typically scale the planets down by 1,000-5,000 km per cm, but the orbital distances have to get scaled down by 100,000,000 km per cm.  Scientists use the Astronomical Unit (AU) to calculate distances of the planet's orbit.  1 AU is 150 MILLION km and is the average distance from the Earth to the Sun.
From Chad's Bookshelf

Chad loves reading and always has a few books in progress.  Here is a quote from his recent reading

  • For every assignment in your life, you will find in the Bible both a minimum standard for faithfulness and principles for pursuing further fruitfulness...  So here's the guiding principle: pursue faithfulness, then fruitfulness, but not idolatry.
