EMI Worldwide... In Chad's role of Regional Director, he gets to support the ongoing work of the EMI offices in the Middle East and Asia. Here are some highlights from those offices and things that Chad has had the pleasure of helping with: - Cambodia - The office is working on a large government project to provide food security and fish farming techniques to the rural villages. This is one of the largest projects the office has worked on!
- India - The office is struggling to obtain visas for their expat staff and learning how to serve their clients better through the government approval process.
- Middle East - Three of the national staff members are being expatriated to various EMI offices! Two are heading to Senegal for 3 months and another is heading to Mexico for 3 years! EMI is really becoming all people to all places!
Local Support... Living overseas for so long has worked its way into our bones! So, when we came back to the USA for this season, we knew that we wanted to continue to serve in an international setting and to cross cultures. We have been so fortunate to find a place volunteering at an Arab refugee support center in the Sacramento area. We had no idea that over 10,000 Afghan refugees were living in the Sacramento area and many more are expected to arrive over the next few months. Weekly we help out at this center to work with new arrivals as they process their various applications for utilities, medical services, green cards and support services. We hear their stories and grieve the world situation where experienced professionals with a spouse and 4 children are ripped from their burned down home and are forced to start a new life so far from everything they know as familiar. Financial Update... At this time of year, many people ask about our financial support and our ongoing needs. If year end giving is on your mind and you are curious about our needs, please read on. If you are already inundated with giving requests, please skip to the end and know that we are well provided for! For those that are curious, our support has dropped by about 5% over the last 6 years. This is an incredible blessing as others we know typically experience more than this annually! If you are able to make a one time donation or increase your regular gift and get us back to 100% funding, we would be very appreciative. See the link below for an opportunity to give. |
