Moving!!!

The thought of packing boxes, change of address forms, unpacking, organizing, purging and yard sales can send shivers down the spine of most normal people.  Last month, Chad went back to the USA to be with the kids and ended up being a part of 6 different people's lives who were moving!  In the 3 weeks he was back he helped clean out a storage unit, moved boxes and bikes out of an attic to a different storage unit, drove cross country with a car filled with tools, clothes and camping gear, helped move one of the kids across town and the other out of the country!  Needless to say he was grateful for a 2 week quarantine when he returned to Cambodia!

Return To The USA

With COVID disrupting our scheduled plans to return to the USA this past summer, we had been looking for an opportunity to make a quick trip to reconnect with our kids and support them through all their moves.  The window of opportunity opened enough at the end of August when Chad made the trip back to the USA.  Unfortunately, Shanthi remained behind to continue teaching at Logos School.  The travel to the USA was mostly uneventful, but there were serious concerns about his return to Cambodia.  With 4 pages of instructions from the Cambodian Immigration Authority and loaded up with COVID test results, medical certificates, copies of insurance documents, a pocket full of cash, hotel reservations and lots of people praying for him, he was able to successfully navigate the process and was admitted back to Cambodia and released from his 14 day quarantine on Friday - after passing 3 COVID tests!

@ Home

  • Miriam is now attending online classes at Vanguard University while staying with a family friend in Sacramento.  She is hoping to attend classes in person starting in January.
  • Chesna returned to Canada at the end of Chad's time in the USA and after her 14 day quarantine is now back on campus starting her 3rd year at Trinity Western University.
  • Moses is thrilled that sports is staring back up.  He hasn't said no to a single sport and now has 5 different practices and is participating in Volleyball, Basketball and Football all while keeping up with his school work!
  • Nate now has a car!  As a part of Chad's time in the USA they were able to purchase a car and drive it from CA to MI
  • Shanthi is loving teaching her students.  COVID has made it much more difficult, but she has a great system in place and is thrilled to be using math on a daily basis!
  • Chad loved being able to spend quality time with each of the kids during his trip to the USA.  He was able to encourage them and walk with them through some exciting and challenging times.

@ EMI

EMI is moving too!  Moving into 2 new countries by placing new offices in Mexico and the Middle East!  Starting two of the 11 EMI offices has given Chad much experience in this area.  These two new EMI offices are likely 1-2 years out, but much planning, prayer and thought goes into each one.  It is very exciting to see the ministry expanding and we are hopeful that additional lives will be impacted.  Each office will likely participate in over 50 projects in the first few years and have dozens of people as staff, volunteers or interns.  Laying a stable foundation is at the heart of this initial research and planning!  Before EMI moves people into these office there needs to be an office built first!

@ the Bible

Reading the Gospels reminds us of who Jesus is and how he interacted with those around him.  Sometimes we see poor representatives of Christ in this world, but when Jesus walked this earth this is what was written about him:
  • He taught the people [and] they were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority. Luke 4:32
  • All the people were amazed and said to each other, "What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!" And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area. Luke 4:36-37
  • The people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.  Luke 4:40
  • The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. Luke 4:42
And this was his teaching to those who followed him:
  • "But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.  Luke 6:27-28
This is who I want to follow!
  1. Continue to pray for our children who are facing so many challenges with school, work and living situations!  Pray that they would be encouraged and be drawn closer to God through these times!
  2. Please pray for Chad as he overseas 3 EMI offices and supports the upcoming launch of 2 new offices!  He spends most of his working hours talking with people on 4 different continents.  Pray especially for wisdom as many decisions need to be made on a daily basis.
Previous Requests:
Chad will be heading back to the USA on Aug 31 for about 4 weeks.  Pray that he stays healthy before, during and after!  Also pray that he would be an encouragement and blessing to those that he visits with! - Even with all the travel and very full days, Chad was able to stay healthy and passed all his COVID tests!

Pray for the students, teachers and leaders at Logos school.  It is difficult to navigate the reopening process with conflicting requests from the government, parents and students. - All teachers and students are now able to return to campus!  Thank you for your prayers!

ខ្លាមិនខ្លាច ខ្លាច អាចម៏ខ្លា

Sounds like "khla min khlach khlach  ach ma khla"

Not frightened of the tiger, just frightened of its dung.

Worries overwhelm you, where ever you go, you see problems that might happen
From the Bookshelf

Chad loves reading and always has a few books in progress.  Here are some great quotes from his recent reading
  • "The church cannot be the church unless it is going and making disciples" - Ripkin, Nik.  The Insanity of Obedience.  B & H Books, 2014.
  • "But in modern America we often shame the wrong people. Instead of deterring behavior that undermines the common good, shame is too often deployed against people who don't fit in—to ostracize them even further." ― Reich, Robert B. The Common Good. Vintage Publishing, 2018.
