1.  All our staff at Petram/EMI.  It's growing!  This term we have 4 interns (2 Khmer and 2 US).  We also hired another Khmer staff member.  All total we have 16 people now in the office!
2.  Chad got to visit a museum about the history of the church in Cambodia.  It was amazing to see pictures of the first church in Cambodia which is less than 100 years old.
3. Many have wondered the color of Moses' soccer cleats that he mentioned in his previous Corner Kick.  Here they are!
4. One of the students of a local Bible college.  He shared how much the college meant to him and how excited he will be to return to his congregation with so much more wisdom to share.

March Madness

Unbelievable Stats

Chad got the ability to visit a few Bible Colleges in SE Asia with a small group of educators.  At one of these schools the leadership said that there are 1,000 churches in the area, but only 400 pastors.  Of these 400 pastors only 100 of them have formal Biblical training.  At another school they told the story of a teacher meeting with a pastor of 20+ years.  The teacher started talking about the Minor and Major Prophets in the Old Testament and the pastor didn't know what the teacher was talking about!  Chad and the office have been able to partner with both of these schools to help upgrade and expand their facilities to allow more pastors to be trained and churches to have well equipped leaders of their congregations.

The 6th Man!

Early February saw the arrival of 3 new interns in our office.  We have been so blessed by your prayers for this intern group as we mentioned in our last newsletter.  They are helping in the oversight of an ongoing construction project, the design of a new church, laying out an expansion to a nearby school and also are actively involved in discipleship.  We have had trainings in architectural design, how to prepare to lead a Bible Study, how to pray through the scriptures and writing professional emails.  Our team couldn't have done this without help from the "bench".

Half time deals!

We found a deal on our tickets - instead of $800ish each for our two months back in the US this summer, we were able to use some credit card points and got a good deal for less than half at $320 each!  We land into Sacramento on June 1st and leave July 25th.  Let us know if you'll be in the Sacramento area and want to get together during that time.

Free throw!

Moses got a surprise ticket to Bangkok tournament.  See his corner kick below.

Chad's extra point!

Thank you to everyone who liked Chad's comment on the Shalom Valley FB page.  He didn't win, but since Shanthi won her first paycheck substitute teaching, she bought Chad a new phone that takes photos instantly (not 30 seconds later after everyone has left) and won't die with 35% battery left.
  1. The only relief Chad has found with his sciatic nerve is to stand.  So he eats dinner standing, does his work standing, and anything else he can do standing.  Every time he sits down his leg and back hurt.  Please continue to pray for him and for God to heal him from this.
  2. Housing and a vehicle this summer.  We have a couple of leads, but nothing is solidified yet so please pray.  We'd like to get the car before the end of April so that Chesna can use it for her summer job. - THIS JUST IN!!  WE HAVE HOUSING LINED UP AND 2 CARS!! AND IT'S NEAR OUR CHURCH AND FAMILY!! GOD IS SO GOOD TO US!

Sounds like "chir puk  kom ang-koi ler"

Don't sit on rotten wood

Don't rely on the unreliable.  Do not depend on untrustworthy people.  Not only is there the idea that the wood may break, but Cambodians will tell you that many nasty insects can burrow into your skin; in the same way, problems can attach themselves to you if you lean on untrustworthy people.
Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?)

You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids.
  • About a year ago, when she was almost 16 years old, Miriam said, "I'm almost a decade old." I didn't have the heart to tell her that she's closer to two decades than one.

  • What animal would you want to be in the stable and why? Miriam answered, "I would like to be a sheep because they are dumb but cute."  I hope these aren't her life goals.

  • And one last Miriam-ism, "I don't think I want to be in a gang."  Glad she's turning the corner on that career path.

Moses' Corner Kick

This month God blessed in a way that I couldn't even imagine. I wasn't planning on going to Bangkok for a basketball tournament because I didn't want to pay for it. I woke up a few days before the tournament and I was told that my fees were paid for and that the coach asked me to go.  God provided for me in a way that I couldn't imagine and I am very grateful. Matthew 6:31-33 was the verse that I found that really showed a sign of God. It says that God is my provider and meets all my needs. If you want to e-mail me a story of when God provided for you, click here.  I will choose which submission gets a $5 Starbucks card!  Submissions will only be taken until Friday 3/15.
