So Thankful for...

a trip to see Chesna

Chad got to travel to Vancouver to see Chesna at Trinity Western for a long weekend.  While there Chensa showed him her campus, they went to a hockey game (TWU Spartans won!) and they went out for perogies (a new favorite for Chesna).  They also got to bike around Stanley Park in Vancouver!

our EMI staff

Last week, we had the chance to tell our interns how much we appreciate them.  They have been a wonderful group to have (2 Khmer, 1 American, and 1 Korean).  We've even had an Indian architect in our office this semester as well.  It's quite the diversity!  A few of our expat staff are either on home assignment or are headed there next week.  So thankful for times of reconnecting with family and friends for them and an organization that allows us the flexibility to take our home assignments when it works best for us.  Today they are joining us for our 2nd annual EMI Thanksgiving dinner at our house.

our Great God

In Shanthi's Bible study this past month, she was talking with a friend about all the cool things God has done for us and we frequently forget so easily about them.  So, she's put together a poster with the verse Psalm 78:4 and pictures of many of those things.  One of the things on that poster is how quickly God brought amazing supporters to help us come here to Cambodia (and previously to Uganda).  We are so thankful for you!  Thank you for praying for us.  Thank you for financially supporting us.  Thank you for sending us text messages of encouragement.  Thank you for sending Miriam birthday e-mails.  Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ to us.  It means the world to us.
PRAISES:
  1. Wonderful trip for Chad to see Chesna in Vancouver, Canada.
  2. Shanthi's getting some much needed time with Jesus.
  3. Miriam's 16th birthday was good.  Thanks so much for everyone who sent her a birthday wish.  She was very puzzled at first but then pleased!
  4. Moses just returned from an international volleyball tournament in Vietnam.  His team took 3rd place overall.
PRAYER REQUESTS (last month requests in red with answers in blue):
  1. Please continue to pray for new projects at our office.  We have lots of potentials, but still have additional capacity to serve local ministries.  A few new projects have occured - a new church design outside of Phnom Penh and a redesign of a school.
  2. It feels like there will be a mass exodus of staff members this fall/winter with 4 staff members going home for the holidays.  Pray that those who are remaining can pick up the tasks that need to be doneA number of tasks have been handed off, but  there is still lots of work to do.  Please continue to pray!
  3. This has been a really difficult season for us as a family.  Please pray for our relationships with one another and for God's peace and grace.

Moses Corner Kick

This month has been really good. Basketball season has started and it looks like i will be playing for varsity. I went to my first international tournament in vietnam for volleyball and it was good. I got injured the first game but I still played the rest of the games because I didn't come to play the bench. We got third place in the tournament so we did ok. I am looking forward to playing basketball because most of the people in my class are playing so we will have a good time. I feel really good about this year for sports because I am taking them more seriously. Last year i was playing to be "cool" because i could carry every sport. Now I am playing for my team which I used to play for before but then something happened.

Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?)

You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids.
  • We had the interns over for dinner one night and the topic of discussion was the difference between quite loud, pretty loud, kind of loud, and really loud.  Which one is stronger?  And then somehow we got on the topic of the morality and philosophy behind Thanos' plan to save the Earth from the movie Avengers: Infinity War.

  • We were having Khmer BBQ for dinner and they were using real charcoal instead of the typical gas burner.  At the end, Miriam asks, "Wait!  How do you turn the charcoal off?"

  • At the dinner table, Miriam was talking about the state of Virginia.  Chad said, "Amazon is there." Miriam asked, "the jungle?!?"  No. Miriam asks, "the coffee shop?"  (Amazon Cafe is a VERY popular coffee shop here in Cambodia similar to a Starbucks).  Chad again tells her no.  Miriam asks, "the packaging place?"  Ding!  Ding! Ding!  We have a winner!
