Gambles Newsletter                                    10/21/17                               Volume 3, Issue 8

serving Cambodia through engineering design and discipleship

Pix

  1.  Water Festival boat races in Phnom Penh.
  2. Neth (pronounced Nate) with Ian and Laura Ebersole - our newest staff members.
  3. The very fun Jeep Coffee stand.  The guy is making our drinks where the engine normally is.  And there is seating for 8 inside the jeep!  Very creative!
  4. Moses has just finished his first ever basketball season.  He was phenomenal as always!
  5. The team of EMI director's just got together in Nicaragua last month.  It's an amazing group to work with!

What's up?

Water Festival

Over 400 boats race on the Tonle Sap in all various colors.  People from all over the country come to Phnom Penh to celebrate the reversing of the current of the river and the beginning of the fishing season. There are fireworks that we hear rival the US's Fourth of July celebrations.  We'll just have to see about that.

Language

Tonight we are leading a married couple's study for Khmer.  We will do most of it in Khmer.  There will undoubtedly be times when someone will translate from our Khmer with a thick American accent to a Khmer that they can understand more easily, but we push on. We are almost finished with level 6!  Only 2 more to go after this.  Our exam is on Wednesday, November 1.
  1. Our level 6 test is Wednesday, Nov 1st.  Please pray that we do our best.
  2. Pray for our expanding team - 2 new expats arrived recently as well as our first Khmer hire. See pic on the lefthand side.  Pray that they would catch the vision of what we're doing here in Cambodia.
  3. Nathan's financial aid is under review currently.  There was a significant drop from last year's funding.  Please pray that the Lord would work all things out according to His purpose and design.
  4. Please pray for Shanthi.  She's been working through some issues the past couple of years and has noticed that her joy is missing.  Pray that God would fill her to overflowing with His unending JOY.
PRAISE:
  1.  Chesna was accepted at TWU and she and Shanthi are headed there during the Water Festival break!
  2. We just hired our first Khmer staff member!

Fish gather in cool water

There are certain places people like to congregate because it's so welcoming, relaxing, happy there like fish gathering in cool water.

Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?)

You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids.
  • "I remember eating the Flintstones." ~Miriam

  • "I don't have anything funny to say right now, unless you consider my whole life a joke." ~Miriam  PS. "You got to be kidding me!  Are you seriously putting that in?" Ooh, how I love to be the editor.

Moses' Corner Kick

The countdown has begun.  Only 25 days till soccer begins.  There's so much to do.  I have to buy cleats. I have to dye my hair.  I have to buy shin guards.  I have to think of some cool soccer tricks and practice them - like doing front flips while throwing in the ball.  Mom gets a little worried when I try this on our tile floors, but where else am I going to practice?  I mean like, hello. She just doesn't understand these things.  Soccer is my life, man!  I just have to be able to do this forward flip when I throw in the ball.

In the interest of saving time this month's Corner Kick was written by Shanthi but approved by Moses.
