serving Cambodia through engineering design and discipleship

Here is a short 2 minute video about where we live.

1.  Sihanoukville really does look like this!  Anyway, want to come for a visit?  We'd be happy to take you!
2.  This is a hint for the $5 Starbucks gift card I mentioned in the news section. :)
3.  This group of men works together to train Vietnamese people to be pastors: the foreigners fund the building project, EMI via Chad design the building, the Vietnamese train the people.  It's so wonderful how God uses the WHOLE BODY of Christ to accomplish his will.  Chad can only do what he does because we have a ton of people like you who support us.  So, YOU MAKE THIS POSSIBLE!  YOU'RE AMAZING!!

What's up?

The past month

We have been back in language school learning a lot of grammar.  Ugh!  Grammar isn't fun in any language, but it is nice to not sound so childlike.

Chad went to Vietnam for a packed three days of meetings.  He presented EMI to global leaders of a seminary funding organization that represent over 200 locations throughout the world.  They raise money and fund projects at these universities, some of which EMI has already worked on!

He also met with the leadership of Hanoi Bible College which was closed by the Vietnam government, but recently opened and is now one of the few seminaries in Northern Vietnam.  They are praying for a new campus and have already invited Chad and an EMI team back early next year to help them develop a strategic plan for this new campus.

Lastly, he visited one of the oldest church structures in Northern Vietnam, a rural church that was constructed in 1935.  The leadership there is already planning for their 100th birthday celebration!

The next month

Next week we are off school for a week long holiday - $5 Starbucks gift card to the person who responds with the name of it.  Shanthi and the kids are celebrating by heading to the beach and Chad is headed to an EMI director's conference in Nicaragua.  It's rainy season here in Cambodia, so it shouldn't be too hot!
  1. Our level 5 test is Friday the 15th. It consists of 45 minute speaking and listening and a 1 hour written test.  This test is more intense than the previous tests.  Please pray that we do our best.
  2. For safe traveling for all of us.
  3. Nathan started his sophomore year at Calvin.  Pray that he quickly gets back into the study habits after a long summer!
PRAISE:
  1. We hope to hear this month about Chesna going to TWU or not!

Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?)

You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids.
  • "What!! The Captain Underpants movie is out?! That's my childhood!" ~Miriam

  • Chad's conundrum: At the gym there's a cold pool and a hot pool.  The cold pool is 18 C or 65 F and the hot pool is 36 C or 97 F.  In Celsius it appears as if the hot pool is twice as hot as the cool pool, but not if you look at the Fahrenheit temperature.  So... is the hot pool really twice as hot as the cold pool or not?

Moses' Corner Kick

These last few weeks have been great; my grades are good and sports have started. I am playing basketball right now. I had my first tournament last Saturday and I believe I did well.  Three feet from half court I swished a shot, but my teammate traveled and it didn't count. I have about 9 more games. I am learning a lot about basketball. I learned that in basketball you need to communicate. When I play basketball I find myself screaming the whole time. I haven't lost my voice yet, but I think by the end of the season my voice is going to be raspy. I was number 16 but then I left that jersey on the bus so I am now number 8. It's kind of funny because 16/2 equals 8.
