1.  Lotus Temple, B'hai faith - beautiful architecture
2.  Kirki Masjid (old mosque in our neighborhood)
3.  Sarfdajung's tomb looks like the taj mahal
4.  We're all picking up some Hindi.  Prize to the first to e-mail back what this word is. (*Hint: it's one of Shanthi's favorite things.)
5.  Step wells, which used to make use of the water table, are now dried up due to huge population growth.  This is what the large pit was that Chad looked into down in south India last month.

eMi2 Staff Week

What it is

We started the week sharing our hearts and prayer requests with the other staff.  We learned a ton about Business As Mission, the history of missions, steps to prevent burnout, how to avoid cross-cultural conflict.  We reviewed lessons learned from the past intern group and brainstormed ideas for the future.

What it isn't
Boring!

How it ended

With a good-bye celebration for the intern coordinator.  She's headed to the US for several months.  Chad is stepping into that position while she's gone.  This is just another way God is using us here in India.

We're on the hunt...
for professional engineers and architects who are native French, Hindi, and Khmer speakers.  eMi is opening offices around the world and it takes about 2 years for a US professional to get to one of these offices primarily because of language training.  We'd like to tap into Christian professionals who already speak the language or live in the area.  So... if you happen to know a Christian engineer or architect that speaks French and is looking into using his/her skills for the kingdom in Senegal, OR a Hindi speaker who wants to use their skills in India, OR a Khmer speaker who wants to use their skills in Cambodia, please e-mail us back.  Just recently Chad's been in contact with a Thai architect that may join his trip in India and maybe, just maybe, join our team in Cambodia.
  1. Two interns, Evan & Chris, arrive next Tuesday.  Pray for their adjustment.  Evan has never been outside Canada or gone to a different church.  This is bound to be a very eye-opening experience for him.
  2. Wisdom as we plan our family trip to Cambodia in March.  The main goal of the trip is to determine which city we should locate in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
  3. The eMi India office would like to take it's 3 Indian staff to the world conference this August.  Please pray that all 3 would be granted a US visa and the office would be able to raise the funds needed to cover their tickets.
  4. In the next month we'll help with intern orientation the last week of January, celebrate Chad's 42nd birthday on Feb 3rd, and then Chad will go to south India the last half of February. He will work with the same ministry as his trip in December with the huge pit. The team will update the campus master plan and design a women and children's home for those rescued out of the sex traffic industry. Pray that God would bring the right team together and that they would serve the ministry well.

Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?)

You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids.
  • Shanthi asks the kids, "What are those chocolate cupcakes with the white frosting in the middle called?"  Miriam says, "hostage cupcakes."

  • Chesna "unfractionalizes the denominator" when she gets rid of square roots in fractions.  For those who don't remember, this is typically called "rationalizing the deonominator."

  • Chesna yells at Moses, "Stop breathing on me!"  Moses says exasperated, "I'm not breathing at all!"

Moses' Corner Kick

It's been really encouraging getting letters from all my friends in America . Sometimes when I feel very homesick I get out my stack of letters and I just read them over and over again. I haven't sent that many letters back and I'm sorry . I sent out a few postcards and one of my best friends sends me about three letters a month. If you have been away from your house for a long time then you would know that family and friends are very helpful during that time. Christmas was great because we got a lot of cards from America. But since we've been here, all my friends and family in America have kept me going .
