Relocation Impressions of Cairo We are so excited to live in a smaller city! We moved from Delhi (32 million people) to the small town of Cairo (22 million people). The change is noticeable with the reduced traffic, less people on the street and available seats at restaurants! One of our first impressions of Cairo is it's dominate color - GOLDEN (at least that's what we would affectionately call in California). See the bottom picture for an examples, if you are not familiar with Golden California. The other difference we have noticed is with the local food. So many new things to try, like tabbouleh, manoucheh, kofta, and koshari. $5 Starbucks card to the first person who replies to this email with the correct identification of the top 4 pictures on the left with these names of foods. A Unique Easter Sunday One of the interesting cultural differences here in Cairo is that the weekend is Friday/Saturday with Friday being the day to attend church. This past weekend, we had our "Easter Service" on Good Friday. The worship leader did a great job navigating the uplifting "He is Risen" songs with the more somber Good Friday meditations. The service was a great reminder of both the pain and suffering Jesus endured on our behalf along with the joy and life that is represented by his resurrection. As a bonus, on the actual Easter Sunday, we went to a military cemetery to celebrate with a sunrise service. I must say, this was a first for us - Easter Sunrise service in a graveyard. It really gave an interesting perspective and renewed hope for the resurrection! Shanthi's Hunt With over 20 schools applied to and very little direction yet for the next school year, Shanthi is still searching for a teaching job next school year. She's got applications in several different countries all within Chad's region of Asia and the Middle East. She has interviews with schools in Thailand, Uganda, and Egypt scheduled. We're excited to see where God will lead us next. |
