2.  We had the privilege of hosting 2 cycling couples who just arrived in India!  They started in Europe many months ago.
3.  Staff member Jonathan trains our new arrivals in cultural adjustments to India.
4.  Celebrating a staff members 10 year anniversary Indian style - with dancing to Bollywood, of course!
5.  Another cycling duo!  So fun to hear their stories of cycling around the world!
6.  Chad was recently at a conference promoting EMI.  What a great way to celebrate his birthday! (Starbucks card for whoever guesses his age)

Greetings from New Delhi!

As February unfolds, we bring you exciting news and updates from our corner of the world. This past month has been a whirlwind of activity, from welcoming new faces to preparing for a big transition.

New Beginnings in Cairo

We're thrilled to announce that at the end of this month, we'll be transitioning from our current base in India to the historic city of Cairo, Egypt! This move aligns with the upcoming Office Director transition in that office. We're eager to embark on this new chapter and contribute our skills to serving the office during this transition.

Highlights from India

Before we bid farewell to India, we wanted to share some special moments from the past month:
  • Welcoming a Fellow from Cambodia: We had the privilege of hosting a fellow from Cambodia who will spend the next 8 months in India learning about the ongoing work and sharing valuable insights from her own context.
  • Interns from Germany and South Africa: We were blessed to have interns from Germany and South Africa join our team, bringing fresh perspectives and youthful energy to our projects. Their contributions are invaluable.
  • Leadership Transition: The India office is now under the capable leadership of Vivek, who has stepped up admirably and ensured a smooth transition. We're confident that the India team will continue to thrive under his guidance.

Stateside Visit on the Horizon

This summer, we'll be taking a temporary leave from our international assignments to return to the USA for two important milestones:
  • Nathan's Wedding: Our son, Nathan, is getting married! We're excited to celebrate this special day with family and friends.  Chad is the officiant with Chesna and Miriam as Bridesmaids!
  • Miriam's Graduation: We're incredibly proud of our daughter, Miriam, who will be graduating from university this spring. It's a joyous occasion we wouldn't want to miss.

Staying Connected

Although our physical location may change, our commitment to serving communities and EMI offices around the world remains unwavering. Thank you for your support as we embark on this new chapter in Cairo.
  1. Pray for our family.  Each of us are in a season of waiting for some very significant events - jobs, admission to grad school, career paths, etc.  Pray that we would learn patience and that God would open up the right doors, in His perfect timing.
  2. Pray that our time in India ends well.  It has been a difficult season, but we have also made great friends and love the office.  It will be hard to say goodbye!
  3. Also please pray for us about our future.  We have the next couple of months figured out (Egypt til end of April, US until mid-July), but we don't know where God wants us starting in August.  We're praying for His guidance in this new season.
  4. Praise! Moses was recently accepted by the Army.  He'll head to basic training in Oklahoma the end of February.
Shanthi's Language Lesson

With the upcoming transition to Egypt, Shanthi discontinued her Hindi lessons and has transitioned to reviewing French in January (in preparation of 3 days there) and Spanish in February (for a week long conference in Southern Spain).  Once we get  to March, she'll start reviewing and studying Arabic.

From Chad's Bookshelf

Chad loves reading and always has a few books in progress.  Here is a quote from his recent reading

  • To know that someone had thought to prepare halal food, that someone had taken my religion into account rather than ignore or be afraid of it, it felt like such a blessing.

    al Rabeeah, A. B., & Yeung, W. (2018). "Homes: A Refugee Story"

The story of a child growing up in Syria during the recent civil war, then immigrating to Canada where he wrote this book as a high school student.
