serving Asia and the Middle East through engineering design and discipleship
On our flight back to Delhi we stopped in Istanbul with some time to kill.

1.  We take turns in the office leading a devotional time.  This was a session beginning a 4 week study on the topic of worship that Shanthi facilitated.
2.  Still no visa, but we're working on it.
3.  The road we walk to the office suddenly looked like this.  We assume that a new road will be placed here soon, but it looks like those cars aren't going anywhere soon!
4.  Our diverse fellows from South Africa (architect and previous fellow in India), USA (structural engineer in Cambodia), USA (WASH going to South Africa), Uganda (CM in Cambodia), Cambodia (business coming to India), and Uganda (electrical engineer going to USA) from top left to bottom right.

Back in India

New Office Director!

Many months worth of prayer have paid off!  We now have a new Office Director for the India office.  He's got vision and connections and a good business mind. Chad's preparing him to step into the Office Director role at the end of this year.  Chad will then step back into his Regional Director role while we stay in India for a few more months to provide additional support to the office.

New visa?

Since Shanthi wasn't able to get a new visa while we were in the US this past summer, we are now trying to figure out what that looks like from Delhi.  We think Shanthi will need to leave the country by the end of October or risk paying a fine and/or being black listed. But what that actually looks like, we don't know yet.  Please pray for wisdom to know how to proceed.

Our Fellows

Part of our job with EMI is to meet with early career professionals monthly as they get professional and spiritual training.  Some of the fellows end up coming on staff with EMI after their 2 year program.  Nearly every fellow we've met has been phenomenal!  Our group of fellows is very diverse - one structural engineer, one WASH, one construction manager, one business, and one electrical engineer.  There are 2 ladies and 3 men.  2 are from Uganda, 1 from Cambodia, and 2 from the US. And they are all gearing up for their overseas office placement.  1 to India, 1 to Cambodia, 1 to South Africa, and the other to the USA, hopefully. If you are interested (or know someone who may be interested in) the EMI fellowship program, you can watch this video.
  1. Please pray for visas for our fellows and for us.  It's a logistical issue we face in order to maintain one of our core values of diversity.
  2. Pray for our new Office Director.  There are many things that he needs to learn and many critical decisions to make in the near future.
  3. Please pray for our family.  Many health challenges have arisen since we returned to India.  Within the first 2 weeks of us being back in India, there were three different family members in the Emergency Room!
  4. Would you join with us in prayer regarding our future?  Our time in India will wrap up in April and we are wondering where our next posting with EMI may take us.  Please pray for clarity and unity as we make another transition to the unknown.
Shanthi's Language Lesson

Sept 14 was Hindi Diwas, a day to celebrate the adoption of Hindustani as the official language of India. It was believed to have originated in 1200 BC from Sanskrit. It is also one of the official languages of Fiji and a regional language in Suriname, Guyana, Mauritius, and Trinidad & Tobago. Hindi is the 3rd most spoken language in the world, behind English and Mandarin.

From Chad's Bookshelf

Chad loves reading and always has a few books in progress.  Here is a quote from his recent reading:

Reclaiming our shared humanity is as simple as slowing down long enough to see each other beneath the surface of polarizing issues.
