Gambles Newsletter                                    10/24/22                               Volume 8, Issue 2 serving Asia and the Middle East through engineering design and discipleship EMI is providing design work for projects in the USA!  Check out this video for a new model that EMI is exploring!   Pix 1.  India Gate at the center of New Delhi.  This monument is a very popular tourist attraction and a great place to see the sunrise! 2.  We have enjoyed getting to know the staff in the India office by having them over for dinner at our new place!  This young couple just found out that they are pregnant! 3. The EMI Leadership Forum 4.  After the Leadership Forum we got to do some cycling in Italy!  Some roads were almost too narrow for our tandem!   5.  Our new apartment!  Visitors welcome... What was that...?? Shivalak... B1/8... Rajesh... 761408... Araadhaar... PAN... 82.53... Chandni Chowk... 60... 7428959732...   If you are confused by this seemingly random list, we are too!  This is just a small sample of the many new words, numbers and phrases we have had to learn as we adjust to life in India.  These are phone numbers, major intersections in the city, abbreviations for identity cards and tax numbers (which are compulsory to open a bank account), exchange rates, co-worker names, and nearby neighborhoods that we have had to memorize, understand or use everyday.  Needless to say, our brains are full and we are so thankful for your prayers during these last 2 months!  We are beginning to gain an understanding of our new terminology and if you would like to test yourself, or just know what phrases are what, you can check out this link for an explanation and a fun quiz (Shanthi is always the teacher!!)  There will be a Starbucks gift card for the people who get 100% on the quiz!!   New Leaders Shortly after arriving in India we had the opportunity to travel to Spain to join EMI's Leadership Forum.  This is an event where young leaders throughout the world come for additional training and encouragement.  Chad was able to teach a few sessions about leadership as well as spend quality time with this next generation of leaders within our organization.  It was a special time and super encouraging!  See below for some quotes from some of the participants   EMI's Move Our USA office has recently moved!  If you are currently giving by bill pay or mailing a check, please make sure to use the updated address: Engineering Ministries International 7025 Campus Drive Colorado Springs, CO 80920-3164 To see what the new building looks like check out this video:  https://youtu.be/ZqwbsvF05F8 We travel to the Middle East in 2 weeks to support the EMI Office there.  Please pray that we would be an encouragement to the team.   Pray for our children: Nathan and Chesna are moving to a new state and Moses might be moving out of state soon as well.  Miriam is staying put for now, but looking for an internship this summer.     Answers to Prayer Energy as we travel to so many places over the next 2 months.  Even though the time zones aren't many, the flight durations are long. We made it and are so appreciative of your prayers! Chad will be presenting at an upcoming EMI Leadership training course later this week.  Please pray that he would be effective and those in attendance would be strengthened in their leadership.  See below for some quotes from the participants showing how your prayers were answered Shanthi's Language Lesson   My name, which really does mean peace in Hindi, is pronounced shawn-thee and spelled Shanti here in Delhi.  When I was growing up I always pronounced it shawn-tee and spelled it ShantHi.  When we lived here in 2015, I had quite the identity crisis and even accused my mother of misspelling and mispronouncing my name my whole life.  Now I've come to realize my identity really is in Christ and not in my name. :)  And Chad found out that "Shanthi" is quite an acceptable, and likely the older, spelling. ;)   From Chad's Bookshelf - HIGHJACKED this month to be quotes from participants in EMI's recent Leadership Fourm  Thank you so much for choosing to invest in and be present with us, taking time from family and other responsibilities...  Thank you for your care and investment in me and the others in our cohort.  I appreciate how each of you seek to lead from a place of love, care and vulnerability...
