We have elected to...

Serving Cambodia through engineering design and discipleship

The entrance to Logos School in Phnom Penh
We got to see Nathan at University on our recent trip.
Colin, one of our Cambodia team members, explains a lesson at our recent training in Toronto
Our final day of training we had to summarize what we learned.  This is Chad's summary.
Miriam celebrated her 14th birthday while we were on the road back from training.  We decorated the inside and outside of the car so we celebrated for 400 miles!

Lonely
Bored
I don't have any friends
I miss my friends back home at school

These and other similar comments have been made by our children over the past 18 months.  Prior to our return to EMI last year, our children were enrolled in a local charter school with wonderful teachers, great friends and challenging curriculum.  When we made the decision to return overseas we returned to home schooling our children using a computer based learning system.  With our transitory situation and the lack of home school co-ops and resources so common in the US our children quickly became isolated, dissatisfied and we began hearing the above statements.

Wow
Amazing
What a great campus
They have a soccer team and a volley ball team!

These statements were made by our children in March when we visited one of the International schools in Cambodia when we were on our scouting trip - Logos International School.

Based on these sentiments and many tough discussions as a family we have elected to change our original plans to home school and enroll our children in Logos once we arrive in Cambodia.

Since we had anticipated home schooling our children while overseas, we did not include school fees in our original budget and currently lack the funds to pay the fees associated with enrolling them at Logos.  By faith we applied and they were accepted to begin in January when we land in Cambodia.

As the year ends and you look to potentially year end gifts and donations would you consider a gift to our children for them to attend Logos?  The fees are broken down on our giving page here.  All donations received are tax deductible and will be used for school fees for our children.  Thank you so much for considering this!
  1. Our family is separating again.  Chesna, Miriam and Moses will be returning to California while Chad and Shanthi will be heading to Texas for additional training.  Pray for endurance!
  2. Pray for Nathan who is at Calvin College - the transition has been great, but he needs joy and focus as he learns how to live independently and adapts to life at college.

Since we still have another 3,000 miles or so to drive, we would LOVE gas cards, restaurant gift cards, or even grocery store gift cards (there's only so many times you can eat out!).

We are considering eliminating our storage unit and getting rid of many of the items in it.  Would you have a small area where we could store the remaining boxes and a couple of bikes?

Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?)

You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids.
  • "Oh Miriam, I just bought a Bentley", "I have a crappy Lamborghini" - Both said by Moses while playing Asphalt 8

  • "What? I'm black?" - Miriam

  • "We can wear KAYAKI, black or navy shorts to school in Cambodia" - Miriam

Moses' Corner Kick

Have you ever wondered why it is okay to stuff our faces on holidays, when you never really do it any other day?  Think about that.  On your calendar is the day turkey or chickens and humans fear.  Forty-six million turkeys get eaten and we all gain weight.  Thanksgiving is also a time of giving thanks.  The top three things I'm thankful for are friends, family and a place to sleep, eat and be sheltered.  Send us the top three things you're thankful for.
