Project Report Complete
I have chronicled the project in Southern India over the last few months - the one with the huge pit that we didn't know what to do with. As you recall, I was there in December investigating the pits and returned in February with a team to master plan their campus and design a women and children shelter. As is the case with all eMi projects, the work does not end when the trip ends. For the last two months I have been working with the staff and interns in the India office reviewing drawings, making recommendations, incorporating new ideas and finalizing the project report. Last week all the hard work paid off and the completed report was sent to the ministry! Here are a few links to some of the work accomplished:

Our relationship with the ministry will not end here though. The report and drawings will be handed over to a local architect who will turn them into construction documents. We will work closely with the local architect to ensure that the design concept is maintained as the design is refined and changes occur. During construction we will visit the site multiple times to observe the quality of work and advise on design changes that come up in this phase. Ultimately, we hope to be present at the ribbon cutting ceremony when the home is opened and the women and children move into their new facility!
eMi's 3D's in Action
The completed project report represents over 1,000 hours of time invested into the ministry and is a summary of our recommendations as the site grows and new construction occurs. It contains tables, graphs, photos, drawings and spreadsheets which are specific to this particular ministry and this particular site. (This is an example of the first of eMi's 3D's - Design). The report also represents significant amounts of training hours that were spent investing in the lives of the eMi India interns and young staff. My role is to guide these young professionals as they learn and grow in their career. In developing this report they are given real world design experience, asked to come up with solutions to difficult problems and are held to high industry standards to prepare them for their next position in their home country. (This is the second of eMi's 3D's - Discipleship).
While the report was being finalized I have been working closely with our national staff to obtain US Visa's to attend eMi's upcoming World Staff Conference. We desperately want the entire worldwide family of eMi to come together for this event held once every 5 years. Bringing together staff from 10 different offices throughout the world and learning from one another represents the third of eMi's 3D's - Diversity. Fortunately, one of our staff has already been granted her visa, two others are scheduled for interviews in the next few weeks.
In addition to the above tasks I have been reading and researching as much as I can on Cambodia and the upcoming launch of the eMi Cambodia office. It will likely be a twist on the current eMi model as the office will be established as a business to better accomplish the 3D's of eMi. Stay tuned for more info...
