Lots of opportunities for Starbucks gift cards this time! Only one win per family.
1.  Nathan's graduating class is made up of mostly homeschoolers, 5 of whom are in our home church.
2.  No one gets a Starbucks gift card for guessing this famous India landmark.
3.  Chesna's 16h birthday camel trek.
4.  In order to win the Starbucks gift card for this photo, you must identify the building, what it's purpose is, and the year of construction.
5.  Another Starbucks gift card for e-mailing me the inscription on this famous Delhi landmark.
6.  This is an interesting view of the Qutab Minar. In the complex with it is an iron pillar.  Another Starbucks gift card to whomever can tell me what the inscription says.

7-9. And finally, the three step wells that I visited with my mom in Delhi. Starbucks gift card to the first person to correctly name them in order.

Project Report Complete

I have chronicled the project in Southern India over the last few months - the one with the huge pit that we didn't know what to do with.  As you recall, I was there in December investigating the pits and returned in February with a team to master plan their campus and design a women and children shelter.  As is the case with all eMi projects, the work does not end when the trip ends.  For the last two months I have been working with the staff and interns in the India office reviewing drawings, making recommendations, incorporating new ideas and finalizing the project report.  Last week all the hard work paid off and the completed report was sent to the ministry!  Here are a few links to some of the work accomplished:
Women & Children Shelter
Shelter Floorplan
Campus Master Plan
Entire Report (8 MB)

Our relationship with the ministry will not end here though.  The report and drawings will be handed over to a local architect who will turn them into construction documents.  We will work closely with the local architect to ensure that the design concept is maintained as the design is refined and changes occur.  During construction we will visit the site multiple times to observe the quality of work and advise on design changes that come up in this phase.  Ultimately, we hope to be present at the ribbon cutting ceremony when the home is opened and the women and children move into their new facility!

eMi's 3D's in Action

The completed project report represents over 1,000 hours of time invested into the ministry and is a summary of our recommendations as the site grows and new construction occurs.  It contains tables, graphs, photos, drawings and spreadsheets which are specific to this particular ministry and this particular site.  (This is an example of the first of eMi's 3D's - Design).  The report also represents significant amounts of training hours that were spent investing in the lives of the eMi India interns and young staff.  My role is to guide these young professionals as they learn and grow in their career.   In developing this report they are given real world design experience, asked to come up with solutions to difficult problems and are held to high industry standards to prepare them for their next position in their home country.  (This is the second of eMi's 3D's - Discipleship).
While the report was being finalized I have been working closely with our national staff to obtain US Visa's to attend eMi's upcoming World Staff Conference.  We desperately want the entire worldwide family of eMi to come together for this event held once every 5 years.  Bringing together staff from 10 different offices throughout the world and learning from one another represents the third of eMi's 3D's - Diversity.  Fortunately, one of our staff has already been granted her visa, two others are scheduled for interviews in the next few weeks.
In addition to the above tasks I have been reading and researching as much as I can on Cambodia and the upcoming launch of the eMi Cambodia office.  It will likely be a twist on the current eMi model as the office will be established as a business to better accomplish the 3D's of eMi.  Stay tuned for more info...

PS - The Facebook link below is new and takes you to our community FB page, where we post pictures and events.
  1. Wisdom as we decide what the kids will do for schooling this next year - particularly once we land in Cambodia.  We're considering continuing to home school them or putting them at a private Christian school called Logos.
  2. Chad figured out that starting in mid-March when we went to Cambodia we have been in 95+ degree highs and may end up with 6 months of high temperatures over 90.  Last year, you may remember over 2500 people died in India during the heat wave.  Please pray for the people who must work outside during the heat in order to provide for their families.
  3. Please pray for Chad and his team as they head to Nepal this Sunday for a week. They'll be designing a school for a ministry that eMi first began working with 8 years ago.

Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?)

You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids.
  • "I know what my name is." ~Miriam

  • "Mom! Now I know my left from my right!" ~Moses

  • Moses said, "Easter people don't lay eggs." Miriam replied, "They lay chickens."

  • "I'm not getting any buzzing action." ~Miriam

Moses' Corner Kick

Recently we had a family talk. I was feeling really beat up from all the teasing and sarcasm going on in the house. I felt like their jokes weren't funny. So we had a talk about it. We came to a conclusion. We decided to show love to each other according to each one's love language. So my challenge for you is to love each of your family members according to their love language every day of the week. The 5 love languages are gifts, quality time, encouraging words, acts of service, and cookies, jk, meaningful touch.
