Gamble's Newsletter 143 - Update on the Transition

August 15 – September 4, 2009

Picture of the Week

  • Yesterday we were driving along and Chesna asks “Dad, why is it when cars stop at a red light they leave so much space between them and the car in front of them?” We hadn’t noticed this difference, but in Uganda the driving is different and more aggressive, so you don’t leave any space between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Funny how kids pick up on some of the differences between the cultures that we didn’t even realize!

EMI/Heritage Update

  • Chad has just talked with Brad, who is the new director of the East Africa EMI office. He said that things are going well, but they are gearing up for a busy September with a lot of trips to the airport to pick up different teams. God has also provided in amazing ways to fill some of the open staff positions!
  • Heritage still needs a middle/high school English teacher for this school year which has already started. If you know of someone who would like to go to Uganda and teach a year of English asap, please e-mail Keeley Wickham.
  • There are a record number of kids in the secondary school at Heritage, but two families at the school have had their moms die due to sickness.

Family Update

  • Chad is still looking for a job. Some firms have told him that they may not be looking to hire someone for another 6-18 months, but he has contacted nearly 20 firms so far.
  • We leave for Oregon tomorrow (Saturday). We are excited to see many of our friends while we are there.
  • We still don’t have an apartment, but Chad’s dad has been wonderful in letting our whole family stay with him while we find a place to call our own.
  • Home school has started! Shanthi and the kids began two weeks ago with a few subjects.

Praise Reports

  • Many people have given extra financial support to help us in our transition! Thank you so much for your generosity!
  • Our re-entry into the US culture is going amazingly well! We praise God for providing a great re-entry program through EMI for us to go through in preparation for our return.
  • Here is a quote from an e-mail to Shanthi from the current principle at Heritage “I'm very mindful this year that I'm standing on the shoulders of a giant - namely you! Your prayers last year are being abundantly answered before our eyes!” Praise the Lord for answering prayer!

Prayer Requests

  • A job for Chad. Our ideal position would be at an international engineering firm. But more importantly that God would open the doors for a job that would be a great match for Chad’s skills and our family.
  • A good church home – we have visited 4 churches, but without knowing where we will live or work it is hard to decide upon the right one.
  • Pray for peace and contentment during this time of transition. We want to be able to say, like the apostle Paul “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation” (Philippians 4:12)
