Gamble's Newsletter 142 - The first 2 weeks in the US

August 1 - 14, 2009

Picture of the Week

Now that we’re back, let me tell you about some of the things we noticed that were different between Uganda and the UK/USA.

  • Variety of Dogs – in Uganda we’ve got the African Mutt and that’s it.
  • Green grass – Miriam even said to me, “Look Mom! Green grass!”
  • Nighttime isn’t very dark. I guess we’ll need to go camping to get the dark nights like we did in Uganda. That’s not so bad.
  • Mapquest and gps’ are AWESOME! No more getting lost or having to ask for directions.
  • Customer service is great. People are friendly and quick and eager to wait on us.
  • There are tons of sales! 70% off items already marked down at JC Penny. We bought several 3 ringed notebooks for 1¢ each at Office Max!

EMI/Heritage Update

  • We will continue to receive money from EMI through September. So if you support us and are able to contribute until then, we would greatly appreciate it. Also, if you are able to give a one time gift this month or next to help us with the start up costs that would be very helpful. All EFT payments will automatically stop after the September contribution. We want to say THANK YOU so much for your faithfulness. We think our supporters (prayer and financial) are the best in the world! You have been so faithful over the past 7 years and we are continually grateful for that. You have made it easier for us to go and do what God has called us to do..

Family Update

  • We went to immigration in Sac and found out that it’s going cost another $460 per child and another 6 months to get a certificate of citizenship for Moses and Miriam. Ugh! We thought we were nearly finished.
  • Chad started looking for a job. He’s got lots of leads, but no bites yet.
  • Also, we’ll be in OR from September 5th to the 13th (the weekends we’ll be in Medford, but during the week we’ll head North). If you’re interested in getting together, let me know and we’ll fit it in!
  • We just celebrated our 15th anniversary! We saw a couple at the fair that had just celebrated their 30th. They told us that the 2nd 15 years is so much better than the first. We think our first 15 years has been wonderful so we can’t wait to see what God has planned for us in the next 15 years!

Praise Reports

  • We may have found an apartment and we have had a van loaned to us for the next couple of months!
  • We’ve got to spend some time with Chad’s family: swimming, county fair, pizza dinner (which is also amazingly better than in Uganda), church, hanging out.

Prayer Requests

  • A job for Chad. Our ideal position would be at an international engineering firm. But more importantly that God would open the doors for a job that would be a great match for Chad’s skills and our family.
  • A good church home.

Attached Picture

  • Miriam with Nacho cheese on her lip at the county fair.
  • Since I took a picture of Miriam with cheese on her lip, Moses applied some to his lip as well. What a goofball!
  • Chesna at the top of Pikes Peak in CO. It’s 14,110 ft high.
  • Nathan reading – it’s pretty much what he does.
  • Chad and I in front of a band (hard to see since the photo was taken after it got dark) at a street fair in Grass Valley last night.
