Gamble's Newsletter 137 - Yard Sale, Coughs and Malaria

Feb 25 - Mar 14 (pi day), 2008
Picture of the Week

We had our first yard sale today as we prepare to move back to the US. We didn't publicize it very much (yard sales are not too common in Uganda), but we made around $75 for a couple hours worth of work. We still have a lot to get rid of to get us down to as few bags as possible when we move back. It is amazing to think that 6 years ago we moved here with nine 70 pound bags and now we have so much stuff! Shanthi did a great job of selling the items while Chad was in bed with malaria! The kids were a great help bringing items from the house to the front yard. We have a couple of other yard sales planned and we have a list of big items that we are selling that we are circulating to the missionary community.

Family Update

  • We are sick! Seems like in the last 4 weeks at least 2 people in our family have had runny noses, coughs or flu. Nathan & Chesna stayed home from school two days this past week and yesterday Chad was diagnosed with malaria! UGH! We are all very sick of being sick!
  • We have purchased our tickets to return to the USA! We will leave Uganda on the 24th of June, spend a few days in the UK and then arrive in the US on the 28th!
  • Report cards have just come out for the 3rd quarter and all the kids did great! Chesna got straight A's in all her subjects and the highest marks possible in her character development. The other kids all improved over the 2nd quarter marks and the teachers said that they are a joy to have in class. We have some pretty amazing kids!!

EMI & Heritage School Update

  • We had a great visit with Jim Hall the CEO of EMI last week. He was a great encouragement to all of us in the office.
  • Shanthi had her first expulsion in the history of the school last week - not a fun thing to go through!
  • The search to replace Chad as the director is still ongoing.
  • Shanthi has received many applications for the next school year. There is also a very qualified person who has recently applied for the principal position!
Praise Reports
  • The staff in the EMI office is amazing! The Rwanda project is coming together with a number of people doing a great job on the design.
  • Chad was supposed to leave for Kenya today to help with another project there for a few days. With his malaria, he is unable to go and another person at the office was willing to drop everything and take his place! Praise the Lord for willing servants!
  • Our kids are amazing!

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for health for our family! We are all very done with being sick!
  • Pray that God would raise up the right person to replace Chad as the director of the office.
  • Pray for our transition back to the USA - we are looking for a job, a place to stay, a vehicle, etc.
  • Pray also that our last few months in Uganda would be well spent and that we would not "check out" early, but stay engaged and productive until the very end!
