#129 - Obama wins in Africa

Oct 31 - Nov 8, 2008

Picture of the Week

So, Barack Obama is the new president of the USA and Africa is loving it! It was amazing to see how the different countries in Africa responded to the news. In Kenya they announced a national holiday, in Uganda the newspapers have had non-stop pictures of Obama on the cover. The paper on Thursday was filled with the first 20 pages containing significant stories about Obama, the US elections and others reactions to Obama's win. It is really amazing to see how much the rest of the world is interested in US politics.

Family Update

  • Last weekend Heritage held their annual rain festival. This is a time for each grade to host games and kids to get dressed up and have lots of fun by putting people in "jail" (two soccer goals facing each other). Nathan and Moses both competed in the bake contest and came away with prizes and Miriam dressed up as a dog. Both Chad & Shanthi were put in jail on separate occasions!
  • Nathan is on the school soccer team and on Thursday they had a game against another international school in town. While Heritage did good, it wasn't quite good enough, they ended up with their largest loss of the year.
  • Chad and Shanthi are taking a Greek class in order to better understand Biblical Greek. They are about half way through the 2nd semester.
  • We have a blog! We had been hesitant to do this because everything on it is available to the entire internet, but we wanted to better stay in touch with people as well. We never really know if our e-mails are getting through and thought that a blog was a good way to ensure that everyone can stay updated with us and our ministry. The address is http://gamblesnuganda.blogspot.com
  • We celebrated Miriam's birthday on Saturday! She turned 6 and had a number of friends over for a "Dora the Explorer" themed birthday party!

Office & Project Update

  • All of Chad's potential upcoming trip options have been either cancelled or postponed! He is therefore going to help out with some of the project trips in Africa with the other EMI offices. He is really looking forward to the fellowship and working with the other offices!
  • It is hard to believe, but the fall internship semester is almost over. Just over a month from now the interns will depart and our 16th intern term will have ended!

Praise Reports

  • God is really teaching Chad about prayer through the book that he is reading by Philip Yancy.
  • The 12th grade student who is still in the hospital should be released soon! Thank you for your prayers for his healing!

Prayer Requests

  • Please pray for the students at Heritage. The teacher who was airlifted out of Uganda and back to the UK died on Thursday of liver failure. The students were notified on Friday and many of them took it quite hard.
