Gambles Newsletter                                    10/12/19                               Volume 4, Issue 16 serving Cambodia through engineering design and discipleship Pix The EMI Office Directors came to Cambodia for an annual meeting.  Our staff did a great job hosting over 20 people for 2 weeks!  This is our office and the international office directors.   Chad giving a presentation during the Directors Conference.   Former interns got a chance to connect with 2 of our staff currently in the USA on a recruiting trip. Chad and some of the international office directors getting ready for a long bike ride.  They ended up covering 50 kilometers and then hiking to the top of a local temple!  Chad's Aunt and Uncle visiting from Florida. During a recent holiday that left Phnom Penh very quiet, we went on a nice tour of the city we call home.   Unspeakable Joy Visitors It is such an encouragement to have visitors come to Cambodia.  We get to show off the country that we have come to love as well as allowing us to reconnect with family and our home culture.  We receive much needed encouragement and support from friendly hugs, quality time and great conversations over meals.  This month we were blessed to have Chad's Aunt and Uncle from Florida stop by on their river cruise through South East Asia.  Next month we will host Shanthi's sister and brother-in-law for a week.  We may even have someone from our church in Roseville come to visit!  If you are looking for a wonderful and different place to come and have some extra hugs to give, please consider visiting us in Cambodia!  Teaching Shanthi is now over 2 months into her new job at Logos School.  It has been a hard transition, but well worth it.  She has gotten to know Miriam and Moses' friends and teachers as well as mentor many students.  Her favorite class is "Personal Finance" where she is helping to build a foundation of solid money management skills to future parents, business owners and government officials.  Next Round of University! Miriam has been very busy analyzing and researching universities throughout the world (yes, the WORLD) to attend next year.  Now in her last year of High School she is looking at schools in Scotland, USA and Australia.  She has recently been invited to apply for a full ride scholarship opportunity in the USA and just yesterday took her ACT test for a second time.   Regional Director A while back, Chad was asked to consider moving from the Cambodia Office Director to the Asia and Middle East Regional Director at EMI.  He has recently accepted the position which will have him based in Cambodia, but serving and supporting two additional EMI offices in the region.  He will also be helping to launch multiple new offices over the next few years.  The position will begin early next year and he has already been training his replacement Cambodia Office Director.   From last month: In 10 days all the EMI office directors and Global Office team will be coming to Cambodia for the annual Directors Conference.  Please pray for God to give wisdom, direction and great communication to this special time.  Thank you for the prayers!  The annual conference was a great success.   Miriam will be selecting which University to attend next year.  Please pray that God would lead her to a wonderful school and that He would provide friends and finances.   Pray that Shanthi would have wisdom and insight to teach and mentor her students at Logos School. Pray for Chad's transition to the role of Regional Director.   ភ្នំំ មូយ មិន ដែល មាន ខ្លា ពីរ ទេ Sounds like "phnom muy mun dael mien khla pi tay"    One mountain never has two tigers In a power struggle one person will always have to retreat - Similar to "This town is not big enough for the both of us"   Miriam's Massages (or was that messages?) You know that kids say the darnedest things.  Here you will get a few funny quotes from our kids. Miriam - "I'm an assistant parent" - Actually, we don't think so, but someday she will make a great parent, just not today and not to Moses!  :) Miriam: "When do the Cowboys play next, because I need to watch the cheerleaders"  She has been watching dance routines to get ideas for her dance team at school.  Doesn't she know that football is way more than cheerleaders!   Moses' Corner Kick Due to volleyball, Moses' regularly scheduled corner kick will be back next month (once the season is over).  By the way, he heads to Vietnam for a tournament that his team can maybe get a gold medal in.  They are 1st in their league right now.
