We made it! Our arrival in India is now a week old and amazingly, we feel settled. Moving into a furnished apartment was an amazing blessing. The day we arrived the EMI staff had already gone grocery shopping for us, giving us a couple days before we needed to figure out where to get bread, jam, milk and eggs. What a great support network! The one item that is still lacking is home internet, which is why our communication may have seemed sparse this last week. We expect it by early next week.
Below are a few key highlights of our first week:
- Chad started work at the office on Monday - he is helping with the design of a water system at a goat farm and another water system at a church and hospital.
- Shanthi and the kids have started school again. It is very nice to be home schooled and take a 2 week break when moving around the world.
- Today is Diwali, a very special holiday in India. It is celebrated with giving gifts and many fireworks. We expect to be up until very late in the evening hearing what one local person described as "World War III"
- Our neighborhood is awesome! We live within a 10 minute walk to the EMI office, right outside our door is a little market where we can get food, groceries and pick up a taxi. Down the street is the main market where we can get everything else we need. Within a 20 minute walk is a western style mall with Forever 21, Starbucks and fast food.
Thank you again for your prayers and support! |
