Mar 15 – April 11, 2009
Picture of the WeekIt’s 12 noon on Friday April 3rd. The excitement is high because we have 2 weeks off. Chesna cuts me off at the office to ask me if Mbabazi is coming to our house today. I tried to blow it off. Quickly I ask Chesna to put some papers on my desk, turn around quickly to get Mbabazi to go to the front of the school and wait for Chad. That works fairly well. But it takes more energy to get 10 girls (8 – 11 yr olds) up to the front of the school and off to our house. Then, I have to create a bunch of meaningless work for Chesna to do while we wait at the school for Chad to come back to get us. After about 15 minutes, we’re done and Chad’s back to pick us up. Later I learned that one girl had been outside running around and being loud as we approached the house. Chad starts honking, presumably because we’re all excited about the holiday and not because we’re letting the 13 people at our home know that we’re about there. As we get off our motorcycle, I ask Chesna to get me a towel to wipe my muddy feet. She walks down the hallway, past the 10 girls hiding, and gets me a towel from the hallway closet. She turns around and brings the towel back, walking past the 10 girls again. The jump out and yell, “SURPRISE!!” Chesna looks shocked, like she might cry, and like she might explode from the excitement. I didn’t think it was going to be possible to pull off a surprise party with such young girls, but we did. Later I asked Chesna if she liked the surprise. She said, “Not really.” I guess it’ll be the last surprise party for a while for her.
Family Update
- We had our second yard sale and sold a lot of stuff. It’s true that one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.
- We celebrated Chesna’s 9th birthday by giving her a surprise party. And boy was she surprised! She got to plan it and we just moved up the date a couple days so she could have a few other friends around before they left on holiday.
- We’ve just about got all our documents for the adoption of Miriam and Moses. We’re hoping that we can get them to our lawyer next week and, God willing, even get a court date for late next week.
EMI & Heritage School Update
- This past week we’ve got to visit with the director of the UK eMi office, Mike Woods. We’re going to see him on our way through the UK.
- At school, Shanthi is getting more and more applications for teachers. It’s been very encouraging. She’s interviewed a few as well.
- The search to replace Chad as the director is still ongoing.
Praise Reports
- Chesna fell off the top bunk bed two nights ago onto the tiled concrete floor and all she got was a knot on the head. We are so thankful that we didn’t have to take her to the hospital.
- Chad almost got into a major accident on the way home from the airport on April 1st. Another vehicle was passing in Chad’s lane and Chad swerved at the last second to avoid a head on collision, nearly hitting a family walking on the side of the road. We are so thankful that God was protecting him and that family.
- A team member that’s here from Willits (20 min. north of Ukiah where our storage unit is) is able to take a whole tub of stuff back for us!
Prayer Requests
- Pray for protection for all of us.
- Pray that God would raise up the right person to replace Chad as the director of the office.
- Pray for our transition back to the USA - we are looking for a job, a place to live, a vehicle, etc.

One of the missionaries from our school has made a video of our school and we thought you might like to see it. Here’s the link:
